Note: Candidates who are citizens of Nepal or Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees, are not eligible to apply for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS).

Applicants must be between 21 to 32 years of age. Accordingly, candidates should have been born between 2 August 1993 and 1 August 2004 (both dates inclusive).

The UPSC Selection Process 2026 is carried out through three  distinct stages, each designed to evaluate different competencies of candidates:

UPSC CSE Recruitment 2026 Salary

The minimum basic salary of an IAS officer begins at ₹56,100 (excluding TA, DA, and HRA)  and can go up to ₹2,50,000 for the Cabinet Secretary. The pay levels for various posts range from Level 10 to Level 18. As per the 7th Pay Commission, HRA for IAS officers is applicable at rates of 24%, 16%, and 8%, depending on the posting location.
